This cozy in-home newborn session holds an extra special place in my heart. I photographed this family back in 2020 when their first little girl, Lucy, was just 4 months old. In that blog post, I mentioned how I’d known Lucy’s Mama, Angela, from Instagram for years! And finally we were able to meet in person once I moved to Denver. If you’ve been following, along here for a while, you know that’s a theme in my life. When we moved here, we knew next to no one! So I ended up contacting several women who I knew lived here in Denver via Instagram, and guess what?! They’ve all become great friends. Instagram gets a bad rap, but so much good can come of it if you use it right.
Anywho, back to these four. Cozy in-home newborn sessions like this epitomize all that I love about my job without any of the challenges. Weddings are lovely but they come with some added pressure and stress! With cozy in-home newborn sessions, I get to slow down. Observe and let this new little life guide our time together. Often, Mama’s will feel guilty for having less-than-spotless homes, a baby who is hungry or a toddler who wants to do their own thing. But those first few weeks of life are perfect in their own way — messy, beyond tiresome, and repetitive. Sleep, eat, change – over and over. But the beauty is in those sacrifices. We’d do anything for those new babies and that is worth capturing in all of its glory.
So if you’re a new Mom, do yourself a favor. Book a cozy in-home newborn session. You may feel your house or appearance or mood isn’t perfect — but that’s ok. There is beauty in the ordinary days and I would argue that the newborn days aren’t just ordinary, they’re extraordinary because of all you’ve done and will do for your new baby.
