I’d been craving adventure when Sumerr & Andrew came across my inbox. They had just gotten engaged and were planning their wedding for the Summer of 2021. As I got to chatting with Sumerr, she revealed that both she and her Fiance were in the Army and had recently moved to Colorado. Normally, I send over a long list of Engagement Session locations, but I had been dying to shoot somewhere in particular — Great Sand Dunes National Park. So I threw out the idea, thinking, an outgoing, new Colorado resident and First Lieutenant in the Army would surely be up for the adventure. I was right.
So we met for our Great Sand Dunes National Park Engagement Session just before sunset in mid-September at the Dunes, which turned out to be the perfect time to visit. It wasn’t too hot, nor too windy and the light was just plain magical. We made our way up from the parking lot to the first few dunes. Walking through the sand was a workout, but well worth it.
Sumerr wore a slate blue maxi dress and Andrew wore a classy white button up with light khakis. They couldn’t have chosen better looks. They must have read my blog post “What to wear to your Engagement Session.” The maxi dress was the perfect shade of light blue that the reflection of the sun on the sand seemed to light up. The skirt of the dress danced perfectly in the wind no matter where she stood. I was in photographer heaven.
This couple was a blast. There are just some couples who can’t not have fun when they’re together, and they are one of them. I didn’t even have to pull out any of my tricks to get a smile or giggle out of them. It was all they did, and I was in love.
Sumerr & Andrew, thank you SO much for being adventurous, joyful and just plain amazing. I am always blown away with the couples that come my way and you are no exception. Your love for one another is so palpable and so real that I cannot wait to capture your big day next Summer. Cheers to you two!
